Supporting Youth Projects


WACL have supported 94 individual project partnerships to champion the needs of children and young people within their communities - and to make a reality of the UN Charter of the Rights of the Child - through

  • developing school links
  • teacher skills exchanges and joint curriculum learning
  • enabling access to formal and informal education
  • training to improve quality of education and attainment, 
  • enabling organisations who empower and give young people a voice in their communities.

Pontypridd Uganda link helps students continue education in safety

First Minister, Carwyn Jones has officially opened a new girls’ hostel at a school in Uganda, built thanks to funds raised by Pontypridd High School supported by local charity, PONT. Their Mbale school link project aims to raise pupil’s awareness of the world and learn about and respect one another’s cultural differences. The hostel was built as a result of requests from girls at Bubutu High School who had to walk long distances to and from the school and feared attacks on their journey. The new dormitory, which is close to the school, will help ensure the girls’ safety, improve their education and reduce their travel. Read more...

Valleys Kids bring Rhondda and South African Youth together for 'Torchbearers'

The British Council support school links through their long established ‘Connecting Classrooms’ programme, which WACL have encouraged community links to join.  


The British Council also support Dolen Cymru's Wales Lesotho Teacher Placement programme.



WACL work with CEWC (Wales’ Council for Education and World Citizenship) who are highly respected by teachers Wales-wide for their global education resources and debating activities on world issues for schools.  

CEWC are one of many organisations engaged in ESDGC – Education for Sustainable Development and Global Citizenship - which was reviewed by ESTYN in their June 2014 Report "ESDGC: Progress in education for sustainable development and global citizenship".

UNA Exchange are a Wales-based, dynamic youth volunteering organisation, supporting many hundreds of young people to have amazing international experiences each year.  They have been supporting international volunteering for nearly 40 years. 

WCVA Explore Internships Programme

WACL have supported several Wales Africa Links to develop exciting internships open to students and young people who would like to explore volunteering with international organisations.
