Supporting Environment Projects


WACL have supported 47 individual project partnerships to champion sustainable and locally appropriate environmental improvement, through:

  • securing access to clean water
  • promoting clean energy development through use of solar, wind, hydro and biogas generation.
  • use of recycling and renewables
  • developing locally sustainable and / or transferable technologies 
  • conserving and managing natural resources
  • agroforestry and reforestation
  • carbon compensation initiatives
  • environmental education activities that encourage consumers to reduce their carbon footprint.

Lampeter creates first 'Community Carbon Reserve' in Kenya

Community Carbon Link is a unique initiative that connects Lampeter and West Wales with Bore in eastern Kenya through the medium of carbon. CCL is one of the several partnership projects between communities in Wales and Africa have started to help transform lives on both continents by working towards Millennium Development Goal 7, Environmental Sustainability.

CCL is a unique community link which encourages ordinary people, businesses and individuals in Lampeter to gradually reduce their footprint by sponsoring tree planting with the partner community in Kenya.  Read More ... 

PLANT Trees to Change lives in Uganda

A unique project which will see a tree planted in Uganda for every child born or adopted in Wales is underway.

The scheme is an extension of the Welsh Government’s successful Plant! project, managed by Natural Resources Wales in conjunction with the Woodland Trust (Coed Cadw). The extension to Uganda is part of Wales for Africa and Size of Wales’ Ten Million Trees project, which will see fruit trees planted in the gardens of family homes in the Mbale region of Uganda. Read more...

Presteigne and Kisaabwa Solar Project: Saving the Sun for the Night

African Greater Life Mission (AGLMUK) is a community link between Llandrindod Wells and Bulabakulu in Uganda.  Building on a biodiversity project idea, the link is now implementing a community forest project to provide a sustainable source of wood and food for the village, a buffer to the important wetland area surrounding, and a teaching and research resource for the Uganda’s Makerere University.
