Thinking through Linking: The UN Gold Star Framework
Most Wales Africa Community Links are driven by the enthusiasm of passionate individuals and volunteers with a shared vision to build a better world. We support over 100 civil society and voluntary groups across Wales in 'thinking through linking,' to maximise their impact and contribution towards a) learning, understanding and solidarity; b) skills, knowledge exchange and volunteerism and c) community development and poverty alleviation. This interactive page draws together comprehensive resources to guide voluntary groups through the organisational development process. All of our work and supported projects are underpinned by the UN Gold Star Framework for good practise in linking, illustrated below. You can gain an overview of specific support we can provide to voluntary groups by clicking on the direct link buttons below:
The UN Gold Star Award Framework for Good Practice in Community Linking
The whole Wales Africa Community Links programme is underpinned by the UN Gold Star Award framework. Piloted by WCVA and BUILD between 2007-2010, the framework is rooted in the proven experience of Welsh and African community-based organisations and is used:
- As a 'roadmap' to guide voluntary organisations through the process of developing a north - south partnership
- To benchmark, monitor and evaluate the progress of community linking projects and organisations
- To distinguish between available levels of funding for different types of activities
- To identify development and support needs of groups / projects most effectively
- As assessment criteria for awards recognition (eg by WACL's independent panel of experts who assess UN Gold Star Awards)
The Gold Star Framework has four 'stages' of development, breaking down into ten 'activity steps' which both northern and southern partners may work through. All civil society links are different, and many may only wish to grow to a certain point that fits their stated purpose.
